Arc Resources Unlimited and VSA arts of NJ

In November 2006 Arc Resources Unlimited (ARU), a program of The Arc of Monmouth, and VSA arts of New Jersey collaborated on a new art gallery at the Freehold Raceway Mall, featuring work by artists with disabilities.

The gallery offers exhibits, receptions with the artists, workshops, and open house gatherings.  The gallery also retails sale of artwork at this major shopping destination in the heart of Monmouth County.

ARU provides employment services in the Freehold Raceway Mall,  ARU’s team of professionals assists people who have disabilities in finding a job, reflective of their skills, abilities and talents and continues support during the training process, and on an as needed basis, after the person has become successfully employed.
In ARU’s quest to promote the skills, talents, and dreams of people with disabilities, the collaboration with VSA arts of New Jersey was a natural progression.

VSA arts of New Jersey is a part of the international VSA arts network, an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.  Founded in 1978, VSA arts of New Jersey is dedicated to promoting the creative power of people with disabilities.  Programs and services including arts education, professional development, award competitions, festivals and performances are offered throughout the state.  A major component of the organization’s work involves programming for young people with autism.

In November of 2006, the gallery opened to  its first exhibit featuring the artistic talents of the students of the Rugby School of Wall Township and the students of the High Point Adolescent School in Morganville.  Some of this artwork continues to be displayed in addition to Photographs reflecting the Creed of the Optimist Club, by students of the Rugby School,

The gallery is located at the Freehold Raceway Mall on the upper level next to the Sears Department Store.

At this time the gallery will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 until 4:30, with the goal to find a funding source, enabling us increase the hours to include weekends and evenings.

Members of the public are invited to come to see the latest exhibit, the art for retail sale, and meet the ARU staff.

We hope to see you soon!
